How graphic design helps organize information
Community Museums Association of PEI Brochure
GRAPHIC DESIGN
1. Background of Customer:
Name of Customer: Community Museums Association of PEI
Type of Business: Not-for-profit organization
Years in Business: 40 year
Target Audience: Tourists and local residents
2. Problem to Solve:
Not many people know/realize there are so many small community museums on the Island. They want to inform people locations and contacts of many unique community museums.
3. Solution:
Create brochure to distribute to each museum and other places.
The client sent a Word file with all the names of the museums in PEI and their phone number, along with several pictures to be included. The format was requested to be a trifold brochure.

I started with folding regular letter size paper twice (inward) to make the trifold and tried to decide the rough layout of the brochure (wireframing in UX Design). I wanted to use PEI map in some way to visually sort all the museums. When I was browsing online, I found this map (right), and an idea was born!
I decided to use counties (Prince, Queen, and King) for 3 different panels inside and place museums according to the area located.

After a few edits and revisions, the left image is the finished inside. I simplified the map and lowered opacity so the map will be background, not interfering the information on top. Prince county museums are more than I could fit in one panel, so had to be extended into the middle panel, but by making a (dotted) frame, it is clear that those are grouped together with other Prince county museums.
And the right is the other side (outside). Colour scheme taken from their logo.
If I were to do this again, perhaps I might widen the space between photos on the left panel and use sans serif font for the title on the right panel.
I have seen this brochures at local libraries. It is always nice to see my work actually in use, and I hope people found it easy to see what kind of community museums are available here (as there are quite a few!).
